The Complete Guide to the 2026/27 NSW CPD Requirements
If you're an NSW real estate professional, the 2026/27 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) year brings some of the most significant changes to the CPD framework in recent years.
NSW Fair Trading has introduced new compulsory topics, different requirements based on your Area of Practice and additional obligations for some Class 1 licence holders. It's a more targeted approach designed to ensure training is relevant to the work you do every day.
The changes have also created plenty of questions. What topics do I need to complete? How many hours are required? What if I work across multiple Areas of Practice? And how do the new Class 1 requirements fit in?
This guide explains what we know so far, what is still to be confirmed by NSW Fair Trading and how Under the Hammer can help you stay informed and compliant throughout the 2026/27 CPD year.
At a Glance
If you're short on time, here's what you need to know:
CPD requirements now depend on your Area(s) of Practice.
Most Residential Sales, Buyers Agents, Commercial and Stock & Station professionals require 7 hours of compulsory CPD.
Residential Property Management requirements are still to be confirmed by NSW Fair Trading.
Class 1 licence holders have additional mandatory requirements.
If you work across multiple Areas of Practice, shared topics don't need to be repeated where the required learning outcomes have already been met.
Under the Hammer will continue updating this page as new guidance is released.
What's Changed?
This year's CPD framework has moved away from a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, compulsory learning is now based on the Area(s) of Practice you work in, with topics designed to reflect the day-to-day responsibilities of different property professionals.
Across the industry, there is a stronger focus on:
Regulatory compliance
Ethical conduct
Consumer protection
Agency supervision
Anti-Money Laundering (AML/CTF)
Applying legislation in real-world scenarios
The goal is simple: to strengthen professional standards and better prepare agents for the changing regulatory environment.
Who Does This Apply To?
If you hold a current NSW property licence or certificate of registration, you'll generally be required to complete CPD each year.
At Under the Hammer, we provide CPD for:
Residential Sales
Residential Property Management*
Buyers Agents
Commercial Real Estate
Stock & Station Agents
Class 1 licence holders
*Residential Property Management requirements are still being finalised by NSW Fair Trading.
Note: The 2026/27 NSW CPD framework also includes requirements for Business Brokers and On-site Residential Property Managers. As Under the Hammer does not currently deliver training in these Areas of Practice, they have been omitted from this guide.
Minimum CPD Hours
The minimum number of CPD hours depends on your Area of Practice.
Area of Practice | Minimum Hours |
|---|---|
Residential Real Estate Salespeople | 7 Hours |
Residential Property Managers | To Be Confirmed |
Buyers Agents | 7 Hours |
Commercial Real Estate Agents | 7 Hours |

If you work across multiple Areas of Practice, additional compulsory topics may apply. NSW Fair Trading has confirmed that shared compulsory topics don't need to be repeated, provided you've already met the required learning outcomes.
