Assistant Agent CPD: Don’t Leave It Too Late
Each CPD year, Assistant Agents must complete three units from the CPP41419 Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice. These units contribute toward the qualification required to upgrade to a Class 2 licence, which must be achieved within four years of receiving a Certificate of Registration.
While this structure is well understood, what tends to cause issues each year isn’t the requirement itself; it’s timing.
The recurring challenge: leaving it too late
Across the industry, a consistent pattern emerges.
CPD is often treated as something to return to later in the year. In practice, that delay can create unnecessary pressure; particularly when combined with the demands of agency work.
What starts as a manageable requirement can quickly become a compressed task.
The guidance remains simple: Don’t leave it too late.
CPD as part of your progression
It’s easy to view CPD as a standalone obligation. In reality, it forms part of a broader progression framework.
The units completed each year are not separate from your longer-term pathway; they are part of the Certificate IV qualification that supports your transition to a Class 2 licence.
Approached consistently, CPD becomes a structured way to build capability over time.
Left too late, it becomes something to manage under pressure.
Flexibility is there; use it
One of the key shifts in how CPD is delivered is flexibility.
Assistant Agents are no longer limited to a single way of completing their training. Across the industry, delivery models now typically include a mix of structured sessions and self-paced learning.
This means you can:
Attend workshops or webinars for structure and guidance
Work through units at your own pace, around agency commitments
Access materials and support when you need it
The opportunity is there to approach CPD in a way that fits your schedule. The risk is simply not using that flexibility early enough.
Staying on track
For those already enrolled in Certificate IV units, the focus is straightforward: continue progressing and complete what you’ve started.
This is less about finding new training options, and more about maintaining momentum.
Final word
CPD requirements haven’t changed. But how they’re approached makes a significant difference.
Stay consistent, use the flexibility available, and don’t leave it too late.
