Under the Hammer collects and keeps records about your training to meet our legal obligations and to support your enrolment, progress, and certification.


We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 and applicable state and territory legislation.

Your records are stored securely using password-protected systems and encrypted data storage. Hard copy records (if collected) are kept in secure, access-controlled locations. Only authorised staff can access your personal information.


We retain your assessment records for the period required by the Australian Skills Quality Authority, which is two years from the date of the assessment judgement. This is to enable audits. If you do not wish us to retain assessment tasks for any reason, we will generally need to find an alternative method of assessment (this is sometimes the case for RPL portfolios). Please speak with your assessor if you have any concerns.


We retain your certification records for the period required by law—currently a minimum of 30 years for qualification records.

Your Responsibilities as a Student

What do I do if I have an accident during my training?

Tell your trainer or another staff member immediately. First Aid is available on site, and the incident will be recorded. If medical treatment is required, staff will arrange assistance and contact emergency services if needed.


Where is First Aid available?

First Aid kits are accessible at all training venues. A qualified First Aid Officer is on site or nearby. Trainers will advise you where kits and safety exits are located at the start of the course.


What happens in an emergency, like a fire or evacuation?

Follow your trainer’s instructions. Evacuate calmly to the assembly area outside the building. Do not use lifts. Wait until staff advise that it is safe to return.


What if I see something unsafe?

Report it straight away to your trainer or staff. Examples include spills, broken furniture, faulty equipment, or unsafe behaviour. Quick reporting helps us act before anyone gets hurt.


Can I be asked to leave if I behave unsafely?

Work Health and Safety (WHS) Information for Students


Under the Hammer is committed to providing  safe and healthy learning and working environments for all students, staff, contractors, and visitors. Everyone has a role to play in keeping training and workplace environments safe.


Our Responsibilities

  • We maintain safe training venues and facilities.

  • We provide information, instructions, and emergency briefings at the start of each course.

  • We ensure First Aid resources and trained officers are available.

  • We monitor risks and address any hazards that may affect your safety.


Your Responsibilities as a Student

  • Take reasonable care of your own health and safety, and the safety of others.

  • Follow all WHS instructions given to you.

  • Use training equipment and resources safely and as instructed.

  • Report hazards, unsafe conditions, or incidents immediately to your trainer or another staff member.

  • Participate in emergency drills and follow evacuation directions.

  • Do not attend training if you are unwell.

  • Ensure your online learning environment is a safe one.


Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)


What do I do if I have an accident during my training?

Tell your trainer or another staff member immediately. First Aid is available on site, and the incident will be recorded. If medical treatment is required, staff will arrange assistance and contact emergency services if needed.


Where is First Aid available?

First Aid kits are accessible at all training venues. A qualified First Aid Officer is on site or nearby. Trainers will advise you where kits and safety exits are located at the start of the course.


What happens in an emergency, like a fire or evacuation?

Follow your trainer’s instructions. Evacuate calmly to the assembly area outside the building. Do not use lifts. Wait until staff advise that it is safe to return.


What if I see something unsafe?

Report it straight away to your trainer or staff. Examples include spills, broken furniture, faulty equipment, or unsafe behaviour. Quick reporting helps us act before anyone gets hurt.


Can I be asked to leave if I behave unsafely?

Yes. Students who act in ways that put themselves or others at risk may be asked to stop training until the issue is resolved.


Bullying and Safe Class Environments

Bullying is a health and safety issue because it can harm your wellbeing. It includes repeated behaviour such as verbal abuse, exclusion, intimidation, or online harassment. If you experience or witness bullying, report it to your trainer or another staff member immediately. All reports are taken seriously, kept confidential, and action will be taken to ensure a safe and respectful learning environment.


Work Health and Safety (WHS) for Online Students

Even when studying online, your health and safety are important. We encourage all students to set up a safe and comfortable study space, including good lighting, seating, and posture to avoid strain. Take regular breaks away from the screen, stay hydrated, and move around often. If you experience any technical issues that affect your learning, let us know straight away. Just like in face-to-face training, please report any concerns that may impact your health, safety, or ability to participate in your course.


Tips for a safe online study space:

  • Set up your desk and chair so you can sit comfortably with good posture.

  • Make sure your study area has good lighting and ventilation.

  • Position your screen at eye level to avoid neck strain.

  • Take a 5–10 minute break every hour to stretch and rest your eyes.

  • Keep drinks away from your computer or electrical cords to avoid accidents.

  • Stay hydrated and move around regularly.

  • Report any issues that affect your ability to study safely (e.g. equipment problems, accessibility concerns).
